Is there a Cherryh-based Traveller universe, GURPS module or MU*-game?

gaming stuff: Lately I've been really disappointed with the <deleted> material from GDW. Before I dive in and write my own, has anyone every seen a source book for any gaming system that uses background from CJ Cherryh's universe? Having just read 40,000 in Gehenna, Rim Runners, Cyteen I-III, and Downbelow Station in _very_ rapid sequence, I want to set my new Traveller universe there. Anyone who wants to talk about this further with me offline is welcome to.

I'll post the final results here or on an archive site when I'm done. The idea isn't to make money, the idea is to have a useful gaming resource.

Jo and I have talked about this a lot. Nothing much has happened, as Jo is determined to work out how Cherryh's ships work before doing anything else. I've never seen a source book, unfortunately, but there is a bit of technical stuff in the boardgame "The Company War". At the moment in our Traveller campaign there's just a few cherryhish things -- jump effects humans as per the books, but is crossed with standard Trav. jump to still take only 1 week real-time. We once came across an NPC who seemed rather like an unsocialised Alpha azi. Merchants come from family ships, stations are much like in Union/Alliance, and so on.

Ditto. I've just done a long description of what I did with Traveller: The New Era on the Traveller Mailing List. I actually started playing Traveller because it had the same feel as CJC's universe.

There isn't any. The closest is a boardgame called "The Company War". It went out of print at least a decade ago. It is chock full of relevant info (Like Mallory needs to roll *higher* than 9 on 2d6 to *miss*). I talk about it a lot :-). A big essay on The Company Wars is in the Cherryh archive in pub/jaymin/cherryh on walton.maths.tcd.ie if you have ftp access.

Is there a MU* [real-time multiple-user network game] aimed at Cherryh's universe? It seems as good a fit as some that have been implemented, including several based on Anne McCaffrey's books, Zelazny's Amber series, Tolkien's LotR, and others.

Could someone familiar with "The Company Wars" comment on whether its rule system looks compatible with program-mediated game-mastering?

I actually began to port The Company Wars to LambdaMoo a while ago. I got the ships and jump points programmed in but that was as far. I am at a new job now and can't run the moo. We're supposed to be installing Linux soon and I may port it there and begin again...

NEWSFLASH!
GaelCon was on just this weekend. The biggest RPG convention in Ireland but I don't really expect anyone outside of Ireland to have heard of it. The two main guests were Greg Stafford and Steve Jackson. Steve Jackson runs Steve Jackson Games (surprise, surprise) which publishes "GURPS" a Generic Universal Role Playing System. They are in the habit of buying liscences from various authors and doing GURPS rules for their universes. So I asked him, of course, if anyone had discussed doing a pack for Cherryh's universe. No one has but he said he would be receptive to the idea. He knows "Caroline" and says she is quite positive about RPGs. Apparently David Cherry plays a lot.
Anyway, I told him about the list and that we were bouncing around ideas about StarChase. Given that Downbelow Station won a Hugo and Mayfair published a game based on that and given that Cyteen won a Hugo too I asked him what he though the chances of Mayfair publishing a StarChase game were. As it turns out whoever is in charge of Mayfair is into trading and rail-road games. He said if it looks like a trading or rail-road game he would probably go for it.
So, interesting, no? I'll think I'll upload your rules again, Onno, and give a detailed look at them. Can you get and display the Company War map I did? If we have basic 16 colour GIF pictures for the map and a sheet of counters that would be a good prototype to submit. If others can FTP they might want to have a second look.

A while back, there was some discussion about doing a GURPs supplement for Cherryh's Union/Alliance/Chanur universe. Did anything ever come of this?

I talked to Steve Jackson in October and he was ameniable to the idea and though that Cherryh would give the lisence. I've had no time to do anything with the idea but I am now playing GURPS at work and so am gaining a working understanding of the system. If anyone else want to talk to him he gave me his e-mail address as sj@io.com
