Syros

Syros seat of Civilzation! Syros has been known, since ancient times, as a seat of great learning and culture. It was they who, after the Romans conquered them, civilized their conquerers. This did not stop them from conquering the rest of the known world but did ensure that the great gifts of literacy and literature were widely spread. After the fall of that great empire they were a storehouse of knowlege and an inspiration to the present age of enlightenment. They have been declared the philosophical capital of The Amphictyony.

The island is not large in size nor its people plentiful. They are best known for their sweet wine, flavourful olives, learning, philosophy, and the Great Library of Anos Syros. They speak an old, old dialect of Common known as Syrian in an ancient form of the Roman Script and worship gods resembling those of the Romans but called by the Ancient names: Zeus, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Athena, Dionysus, Hades, Hera, Hermes, and Poseidon.
